Polyurethane foam is one of the most popular types of foam and has been the shaper's choice since the 1950s. It is light and very shapeable.

EPS foam is polystyrene foam,  made up of tiny little foam balls that compress together with an adhesive.  EPS is typically the lightest foam used in surfboards. EPS foam is used for higher volume surfboards.

Molded epoxy is a sandwich construction in which the shell is made and then filled with foam. Molded boards tend to be stronger and better at resisting pressure.
