The Wahine Heather Ross Mermaids Series
Walden Surfboards is excited to introduce the launch of our Artist Series Limited Edition surfboards. Our first collection is by Santa Cruz native Heather Ross. Heather Ross is an author and artist. Her illustrations appear on textiles, paper goods, on the pages of her book, “Weekend Sewing,” and on her blog, “Weekend by Heather Ross.” Heather’s work draws upon both her own childhood, which she describes as “rural and unsupervised,” and her career in fashion and textile design. She brings her readers a collection of projects, recipes, resources, artwork, and essays meant to inspire and empower young women (the first generation of American women, as Ross points out, for whom home-economics was not a requirement) to live creatively. Heather is originally from Santa Cruz, although she now calls NYC home, and she is stoked to be working with Walden Surfboards and coming back to her surfing roots. Heather has designed three boards for us, as well as the special Walden Wahine turtle logo that will be on one of her surfboards.
X-2 EPOXY/WOOD PERFORMANCE We all know the feeling of taking off on a fresh custom board! You can feel the board flex, the glass and wood straining as you power through your bottom turn. Now imagine your new board has that feeling on your first drop, the second week, and still feels that good next summer. With a thin wood veneer sandwich, the X-2 boards have the lively feeling and the durability to remain in your quiver for years.
Ordering a Custom Board:
Our goal is to build the best board for your needs, whether you need a custom board for competition, performance, weight, travel, color or any combination we have the ability and 45 years of experience to custom build the board you want. With a custom board, after you determine your model, you get to pick the dimensions, art, finish, fins, glassing and foam. We have recommendations for each model and will work with you to determine the best options for your board. Custom orders do not get processed until we have consulted with you by a phone or e-mail - whatever you prefer, to make sure your order is just right and we have answered all your questions.
Options, Making it Personal:
The benefit of a custom board is that you get to make it personal, some of the options you get to choose are:
Dimensions:
With a custom shape you can pick your own dimensions, for example if you like a thicker or thinner board we can make those adjustments. When building a custom shape we will determine the right dimensions for the nose, width, tail, thickness and tail shape for your board.
Art:
Choose virtually any design such as color, stripes, panels, color in lamination, fabric inlay or just clear. Have a logo you want on your board, we can do that too.
Finish:
Polished, sanded polish or sand only.
Glassing:
We have standard glassing schedules but we can tweak the glass for heavier or lighter boards.
Foam:
Standard poly or EPS foam. * Some models are available in EPS only
Shaping:
We have two options, have one of our excellent shapers build your board or order a Limited Edition board shaped by Steve Walden. Limited Edition boards are signed, numbered and marked with special Limited Edition laminates. For our 45th anniversary, Steve is limiting his 2010 shapes to only 45.
Lead time:
We require a $400.00 non-refundable deposit per board to start an order. Most orders take about 4-5 weeks not including shipping. Orders that require special blanks, parts or art files may take longer. Orders do not start until we receive all the parts.
An in stock board ordered online or over the phone will ship out within 2 business days. A custom board will ship upon completion of production. Delivery time depends on your distance from Southern California, and takes approximately 3 to 10 business days (not including holidays). All deliveries require a signature and all surfboard sales are final.
