The Retro Wing Swallow Tail (RWST)

The Walden RWST debuted in Outside Magazine’s summer “Gear of the Year” issue. Equipped with five fin boxes, it works as a thruster or quad. It carves in small waves, and when the surf gets bigger, the RWST is steady on steep drops and bottom turns. The board is versatile enough for any wave. The board’s outline evolved from Steve’s 70’s Dyno Eagle twin-fin fish. Measured at 2-3/4” thick for flotation to help you paddle, with a Magic Model hull for speed and maneuverability.

Ordering a Custom Board:

Our goal is to build the best board for your needs, whether you need a custom board for competition, performance, weight, travel, color or any combination. We have the ability and 45 years of experience to custom build the board you want. After you determine your model, you get to pick the dimensions, art, finish, fins, glassing, and foam. We have recommendations for each model and will work with you to determine the best options for your board. Custom orders do not get processed until we have consulted with you by phone or e-mail to make sure your order is just right and we have answered all your questions.

Options, Making it Personal:

The benefit of a custom board is that you get to make it personal. Some of the options you get to choose are:

Dimensions:

With a custom shape you can pick your own dimensions. For example, if you like a thicker or thinner board we can make those adjustments. When building a custom shape we will determine the right dimensions for the nose, width, tail, thickness, and tail shape for your board.

Art:

Choose virtually any design, such as color, stripes, panels, color in lamination, fabric inlay or just clear. Have a logo you want on your board? We can do that, too.

Finish:

Polished, sanded polish or sand only.

Glassing:

We have standard glassing schedules, but we can tweak the glass for heavier or lighter boards.

Foam:

Standard poly or EPS foam. *Some models are available in EPS only.

Shaping:

We have two options: Have one of our excellent shapers build your board or order a Limited Edition board shaped by Steve Walden. Limited Edition boards are signed, numbered, and marked with special Limited Edition laminates. For our 45th anniversary, Steve is limiting his 2010 shapes to only 45.

Lead time:

We require a $400.00 non-refundable deposit per board to start an order. Most orders take about 4-5 weeks, not including shipping. Orders that require special blanks, parts or art files may take longer. Orders do not start until we receive all the parts.

An in stock board ordered online or over the phone will ship out within 2 business days. A custom board will ship upon completion of production. Delivery time depends on your distance from Southern California, and takes approximately 3 to 10 business days (not including holidays). All deliveries require a signature and all surfboard sales are final.
